The main event: The video
The Results
Ok, I am done. I am, for once, content with what I made. As I said in the video, I do apologize for it being long. Disclaimer: the assignment was not clear on what we needed to write, so I decided to explain to us the process and storage of the stand after having used it for three days; the second piece finished printing on Tuesday. Further context. The video was made before the written review, so my opinion on the piece has matured.
I am fully convinced that I will not be creating a singular structure, and I am glad that the printer was not able to do that for me. What I have now is structurally sound: I used it to study for my math final, and it is elegant: it is slender and pleasing on the eye. The issue with the colors remains. I don’t like that it is both blue and yellow, even though it is one of my favorite color combinations, it does not match with the theme of my room, which is based around nice earthy tones, and not gaudy, artificial ones.
The affects of time
As seen in the adjacent image, it is very easy to store and keep on my desk. Once it is spray-painted black, it will look perfect with the aesthetic I have going on. As stated previously, it is quite structurally sound. It printed both times perfectly, and I didn’t have to go through the pains of reprinting, as I had feared. This likely would have happened had I flourished, for lack of a better term, the inside of the shape with curves as I had originally planned.
In the end, it was good that I didn’t have to go to those extremes because it allowed me to more easily move the object around my desk with the computer in my hand. Another feature that I ended up likely is just how light the print was; moving my computer was not as heavy or laborious as I had at first thought.
Though I had at first panicked at the thought of printing something. I recognize that issues would have most definitely happened with my more complex design. If, by providence, I was able to fit it in the printer, I would end up wasting plastic, and I would have to make further edits in Fusion. Sometimes, something not working out is exactly what is needed to make something work both functionally and optimally. In the long run, I am grateful that I had to pivot my strategy even though in the short run it caused me much annoyance and frustration.
How it printed
This was as detailed as I could get it. I thought that two videos would be redundant, and the yellow piece was just a one-second clip. But my video shows that both are quite functional and work.
